Jan Jakub Kotík

Born in 1972

(*1972 +2007)

Jan Jakub Kotík was born and educated in New York and his works show the influence of a different art environment. In his works, he pointed out the interconnection of politics, industry and media in a globally interconnected world. He revealed the mechanisms that have a significant impact on our lives although they often remain hidden. He also focused on international militant politics. He entered the Czech art scene in 2000 with his exhibition Economies of Scale introducing home appliances made out of models of war planes, tanks and battleships. The jury of Jindřich Chalupecký Award appreciated the precision of his projects, often combining unexpected materials, and their politically engaged message inspired by the media world.
