Jan Stolín

Born in 1966

The starting point of Jan Stolín’s works is space. Since the time of his studies, he has been employing a sober way of expression which has brought him to a complete emptying of the gallery. Subsequently he would construct new walls in it and make a minimalist intervention in the space by means of multimedia projections and sound. In his exterior works, he often uses air-conditioning silver pipes, which are also part of the Freedom Fighters‘ and War Victims‘ Memorial in Liberec. In this case, the pipes are placed inside wire constructions, with the names of the victims alternating on digital displays. The other components of the memorial such as sound, air flow and visual light elements are also characteristic of his works.
